Hananeji

Hananeji (literally, the "nose twister") and Naeshi (literally, the "whitherer") are weapons often associated with jittejutsu, but differ in their nuances. Hananeji were used as a restraint tool by low ranked warriors during the warring states period by twisting the front of the horse's lip to bring the horse into submission, and are used in ryuha such as Yagyu Shingan-ryu. On the other hand, the naeshi were used as a specialist restraint tool along with the jutte in ryuha such as Edo Machikata Juttejutsu. Both are used in similar ways, but were originally designed for different purposes.
